Conformal Coating

Two process steps decide whether a finished PCBA survives in the field: the protective film you apply to it, and the adhesive that holds its packages down. Both are usually applied by the same kind of machine — a multi-axis dispensing platform — yet many factories buy them as two separate pieces of equipment with two separate programming environments, two sets of spare valves and two sets of operator training. The STZ-P350 selective conformal coating and dispensing machine from Southern Machinery is built to close that gap. It is a conveyor-fed, SMEMA-linked, online platform that carries two dispensing valves of different technologies — a jet valve and a piezo valve — under an industrial CCD vision positioning system. One line can therefore run selective conformal coating on one product family and underfill, encapsulation or SMT red glue dispensing on the next, on the same recipe library.

The SC9200 is an inline automatic coating machine from Southern Machinery that applies conformal coating selectively - only where the board needs protection. It handles PCBs up to 450 x 450 mm with component clearance up to 100 mm, positions the spray head with +/-0.2 mm accuracy on the X, Y and Z axes, stores 1000+ programs, and pairs a UV detection light source with an atomizing spray valve and a dispensing valve. For EMS, ODM and OEM teams running SMT and THT lines, it replaces manual brushing and heavy masking with a repeatable, computer-controlled coating process that is easier to qualify and document.
