What is the SFY03 magnetic navigation AGV used for? The SFY03 is a magnetic navigation AGV that moves materials along a magnetic-strip route on an SMT shop floor. Routes, sites, and operations are edited on its onboard 4.3-inch touch screen, so a layout change does not require a programmer or a laptop. Published rated load is 50 kg (per the SFY03 Operation Manual, Rev. 2025).

Your SMT line just moved. Did your material route move with it?
Why does a fixed AGV route hurt every time the line changes?
New-product introduction, layout optimisation, and shifting demand all move pick-and-place points. The SFY03 flexibility brief states it plainly: it is hard to change the route when the SMT line moves.
The hidden project behind a 'small' change
If the route lives in code or in an integrator's configuration, a line move needs a specialist, a laptop, and a production stop. Most teams never count that cost, because it arrives as a string of small delays rather than one invoice.
Why a magnetic navigation AGV changes the question
On the SFY03 the path is a consumable strip and the logic lives on the vehicle. Southern Machinery publishes no downtime or productivity figure for it. Measure it on your own route during a trial.
How do you plan a route change you can repeat?
Use a four-step model every time the layout moves.
Step 1 to 2: lay the strip, place the cards
Relay the magnetic strip (default 30 mm wide, N pole facing up, adhesive S-pole side down). Place RFID site cards at least 1 m apart, with a slow-down site 0.5 m before and after each turn. The arc radius must not be smaller than the 1 m navigation turning radius.
Step 3 to 4: edit, save, run
Use the site editor to write card numbers and the route editor to set up to 10 operations per site. Save to flash, select the route, and press Start. Settings are kept after power-off.

What does the SFY03 actually specify?
The values below are quoted from the SFY03 Operation Manual (Rev. 2025). Anything not listed is not specified in source—contact Southern Machinery to confirm.
| Parameter | Published value |
|---|---|
| Navigation | Magnetic strip, 13.56 MHz RFID site cards |
| Navigation / card-read stop accuracy | ±10 mm |
| Precise stop | ±5 mm (with secondary positioning) |
| Rated load | 50 kg; 50 % overload allowed |
| Speed | 0.8 m/s maximum; 0.7 m/s navigation |
| Dimensions | 600 × 450 × 472 mm; 600 × 450 mm platform |
| Battery | 24 V / 12 Ah; optional 24 V / 20 Ah |
| Runtime | 6 h full load; 8 h typical; 10 h with 20 Ah option |
| Routes / sites / operations | >200 routes; >200 sites per route; 10 per site |
| Obstacle sensor | Single-point laser, 15° cone, up to 1.2 m |
| Environment | Indoors, -10 °C to 45 °C, below 80 % humidity |
Floor and load limits to check first
Floor flatness must be 3 mm or less within 1 m², slope 0.01 or less, steps 5 mm or less, and grooves 10 mm or less, with none at parking positions. Climbing capacity is under 1 %, so ramps are not the place for it. The 50 kg figure is a rated load, so check pallet centre of gravity and transfer heights.
Safety and power
Front and rear E-stops, status lights, and a laser sensor are standard. The anti-collision bumper is optional. The manual warns that no obstacle detection method fully protects against unknown obstacles and that strong or reflective light can trigger false detection. Charge below about 20 % remaining capacity with the supplied 220 V charger.

How does an AGV fit into a complete PCB assembly line?
The AGV connects stations; it does not replace them. Pair it with THT machines, wave soldering, board handling systems, and 3D SPI/AOI inspection. Southern Machinery, founded in Shenzhen in 2011 and serving 237+ clients worldwide, supplies SMT and THT lines with global service, spare parts support, and professional training. Fleet or MES integration is not specified in source—contact Southern Machinery to confirm; the communication interface is listed as reserved.
What is a route change worth on your line?
Use your own numbers. Southern Machinery publishes no price, ROI, or payback figure for the SFY03.
Annual benefit = (operators freed per shift × loaded labour cost per hour × hours per shift × shifts per day × working days per year) + extra output value
Payback (months) = quoted investment ÷ (annual benefit ÷ 12)
Example only, depending on configuration and subject to final technical confirmation: 1 operator freed, 10 USD per hour, 8 hours, 2 shifts, 250 days gives 40,000 USD a year in labour value. These are placeholder inputs, not an SFY03 result and not a guarantee.
What do engineers ask before a route trial?
Do I need a laptop or a programmer to change the route?
No. Routes, sites, and operations are edited on the onboard 4.3-inch touch screen under Home > Route editor.
How many routes and stations can it hold?
More than 200 routes, more than 200 sites per route, and up to 10 operations per site.
Is obstacle detection standard?
A single-point laser with a 15° cone, adjustable up to 1.2 m, is standard. The rubber bumper is optional.
Can it run outdoors?
No. The manual states indoor use only, on a flat wear-resistant floor.
What is still to be confirmed?
Price, lead time, warranty, certification applicability, automatic charging, the 20 Ah battery option, and fleet integration. Confirm these on your quotation.
What should you read next?
Next in this series: a floor-survey checklist for magnetic strip routes and how to choose between standard and optional safety add-ons for SMT material logistics. Revisit this four-step model each time your line layout changes.
